With Gratitude: A Leadership Update from Lifelong’s CEO

Dear Friends of Lifelong:

As we head into summer and Pride Month, I’m writing with deep gratitude and reflection. After three years as Lifelong’s CEO, I will be stepping down later this month as my family relocates to Arizona. While this move is the right choice for us personally, it was not a decision I made lightly -- especially at a time when organizations like Lifelong, and so many others across the country, are once again in the fight for our lives.

It has been a profound honor to lead Lifelong during such a pivotal moment. I’ve been continually inspired by the resilience, compassion, and unwavering dedication of our staff, clients, and community. Lifelong’s proud legacy of service -- and the extraordinary people behind it -- have made this work so meaningful, even amid the growing challenges that threaten public health, equity, and access to care.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built together during a time of significant change: expanding access to medically tailored meals, evolving our housing partnerships, investing in our internal infrastructure, and positioning Lifelong for long-term impact and sustainability. Just as importantly, we’ve done this work guided by integrity, equity, and a relentless commitment to those we serve.

The Lifelong Board of Directors has launched a national search and identified a strong, diverse pool of candidates for the permanent CEO role. In the meantime, two exceptional leaders from our Executive Team will serve as interim co-CEOs to ensure a smooth and steady transition. Marshall Curtis, our Chief Strategy and Compliance Officer, will oversee administrative and operational functions. Emily Hanning, our Vice President of Food and Nutrition, will continue to lead our food work and will now also oversee client service programs. Together, they bring deep expertise, clear vision, and a shared belief in Lifelong’s mission.

As we navigate this transition amid national uncertainty -- from rising costs to mounting threats to public health funding -- your support is more important than ever. Because of you -- our donors, volunteers, and partners -- we can continue showing up for our most vulnerable neighbors with compassion, resolve, and dignity.

Thank you for being part of Lifelong’s family of supporters and advocates. I leave with immense gratitude and full confidence in the future of this remarkable organization.

With appreciation,

Erica Sessle
