Lifelong Welcomes James Shackelford As Chief Executive Officer

After a rigorous and inclusive search process, the Lifelong Board of Directors has appointed James Shackelford as Lifelong’s Chief Executive Officer. James’ experience, vision, and values will guide Lifelong into the future—with continued emphasis on health equity and client-centered care.

James most recently held global leadership roles at amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research and Aon. Previously, he founded and led a strategic communications, marketing and creative consulting firm, where he developed strategies and executed campaigns to increase fundraising capabilities, raise awareness, and drive growth for Fortune 10 to 500 consumer, health, and services companies, startups and nonprofits.

“I come to Lifelong for the same reasons that many of my new colleagues are here: to fight for those who are too often pushed to the margins. To ensure that people living with chronic illness have the support, care, and dignity they deserve—not just to survive, but to thrive,” said James. “I look forward to connecting with our clients, partners, volunteers, and donors as we carry out our mission together.”

The decision to appoint James reflects the stability and strength established under Erica Sessle’s leadership and the ongoing efforts of the executive team at Lifelong. At this exciting juncture of our organization’s journey, we are confident that under James’ leadership, Lifelong, and more importantly, our clients will continue to thrive.
